scar tissue in kidneys, livers, and lungs

What TB-500 Fibrosis Research Found About Organ Scars

A stiff scar can keep an organ from working well. Studies from 2023–2024 track animal scars and IL-8, a lab name for one chemical call, after TB-500 or full thymosin beta-4.

Why TB-500 fibrosis research mostly used full thymosin beta-4

Fibrosis means thick scar tissue that can make one of your organs stiff. TB-500 fibrosis research mainly tested full thymosin beta-4, not the small TB-500 piece.

After an injury, platelets—the blood parts that help make a clot—release thymosin beta-4 near immune cells. The full protein can reduce cells that pull a scar tight and add more scar tissue [5].

The same thymosin beta-4 protein can calm swelling, slow cell death, and hold back some germs. Those findings don't show that the smaller seven-part piece will do the same in you [11].

One end of thymosin beta-4 can be cut off as another small piece. That part may affect scar tissue and the growth of blood vessels.

TB-500 comes from farther along the protein chain. It can't release the same scar-related piece.

The full protein left less thick scarring in kidney, liver, and lung work. Only animals and loose cells were tested, so the findings don't show that the small piece helps you [11].

How fewer scar-making cells may leave softer tissue

Some repair cells pull your wound together and build its scar. Too many can leave a thick, stiff patch called fibrosis.

Several reviews found fewer scar-making cells after full thymosin beta-4 [5]. Injured animals also had repair cells move and tiny blood vessels grow [10].

Together, those findings suggest a possible path to a thinner scar. They did not prove that useful repair took place.

Loose cells also sent fewer chemical calls that draw immune cells and start scar growth. The tests used animals or the full protein in a dish, so no person has shown the same scar change from TB-500 [11].

How the full protein lowered IL-8, one call that brings swelling

Your cells send chemical calls that can bring immune cells and swelling. In one dish, full thymosin beta-4 lowered a call labeled IL-8 [7].

That label is only the lab's name for the call. A weaker call may draw fewer immune cells to your sore place.

Tissue from the eye's front surface showed a similar change after full thymosin beta-4 [8]. Both findings came from loose cells or tissue, not from people taking the small piece.

The full thymosin beta-4 protein may therefore have one way to ease swelling. The work doesn't prove that TB-500 will calm your knee or tendon.

How did cell tests linked to TB-500 change swelling?

Lab-dish work found that full thymosin beta-4 lowered IL-8, the lab's name for a chemical call that draws immune cells and swelling [7]. Eye tissue changed in a similar way [8], but no controlled test shows that the small seven-part piece would calm your swelling.

What the full protein changed in scarred rat kidneys

Researchers blocked the tube that drains one kidney in rats. Full thymosin beta-4 eased kidney scars and kept more cells in that tube from dying [9].

The same protein also slowed chemical messages that tell tissue to build scar. That may help explain the kidney result, but it doesn't prove the cause.

This was a rat study of full thymosin beta-4. It doesn't show that TB-500 will change a scarred kidney in you.

What 2023–2024 studies changed in liver and lung scars

One animal study found less liver scarring after full thymosin beta-4 lowered messages tied to swelling and scar growth [12]. A 2023 study removed thymosin beta-4 from one kind of liver cell and also found less scarring [14].

Those results point in opposite directions. The protein may help in one kind of cell and harm in another, so it isn't fair to say it always fights scars.

Rats also breathed in full thymosin beta-4 after a drug had scarred their lungs. The rats then had less lung scarring [15].

A 2021 review gathered similar work across several organs [18]. Every study here used animals or cells and the whole protein, not people taking TB-500.

The liver study that removed the protein needs a second look. Taking thymosin beta-4 out of certain liver cells cut scars [14], while adding it cut scars elsewhere [12].

The result changed with the kind of cell involved. For you, that means the scar findings are mixed, limited to thymosin beta-4, and not tested in a controlled human TB-500 trial [11].
